Come Join Us

We will be hosting a number of events during the summer and early fall for prospective members. These events will allow you to have the opportunity to learn more about the Junior League of Portland, get an overview of our organization, receive an explanation of our application process, and meet our volunteers! Please join us, bring your questions, and bring a friend! All are welcome!

When is the best time to join?

New Members are welcome to join one time per year during the fall. The 2008 deadline for receipt of new member enrollment forms is October 20th. Prospective members who miss the deadline must wait until the following year.

Enrollment Process

All women interested in learning more about becoming a member of the JLP should plan to attend a new member social event. Socials are usually held in the summer and early fall. For more information and to add your name to the mailing list, please contact Barbara Colby at bcolby@maine.rr.com.

Why join?

Receive Excellent Training

Members are offered training courses, seminars and workshops on a variety of topics that relate to personal, professional and community interests. Opportunities to attend League sponsored state, regional and national conferences and training sessions are also available to members.

Better our Community through Community Service

For 85 years, the Junior League of Portland has committed volunteer leadership and funding to many worthwhile community projects. The JLP has strived to make a difference in our community by identifying specific needs and creating projects, frequently in conjunction with community partners, to meet those needs.

Network with Other Women who Share Your Values

Members working side by side, serving their community, form lasting friendships. Networking opportunities also exist through collaborations with other community, state and national organizations.

Develop Your Leadership Skills

Members develop core skills by serving on League committees that transfer well to their personal and professional lives. Many League members are afforded opportunities to serve on community boards, and other local/ national leadership programs. In addition, Members are encouraged to take leadership positions that provide for personal growth and are supported by a mentoring system.

Transfer Your Membership --Nationally or Internationally

League membership is transferable throughout the United States, Canada, Great Britain and Mexico, thus providing members with a network in a new community.

Build Lasting Friendships

Strong bonds of friendship develop while working on a League project, participating in training, working together to help others, attending membership meetings and social events.
