Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

The Junior League of Portland, ME Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion, adopted in Spring 2018:

The Junior League of Portland, ME welcomes all women who value our Mission. We are committed to creating inclusive environments for all individuals, organizations and communities.

The JLP Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Task Force was started in 2018 in an effort to ensure we are truly living out our mission. We have continued to refine our work over the past couple of years, including incorporating DEI measures into our FY20-23 Strategic Plan.

The DEI Task Force’s work is focused on three priority areas:

  1. Creating spaces for learning so that our members build cultural humility. This is achieved through collective knowledge sharing and skill development experiences around issues related to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. 

  2. Examining and proposing shifts to the JLP’s internal structures to ensure that the organization is free from systematic biases and replaced with truly inclusive and anti-racist policies and practices.

  3. Establishing, strengthening, and deepening external partnerships with organizations in the Greater Portland area who are leading the way in DEI-related work.
